Rural Renewable Energy Systems
The European Council, on 12 December 2008, and the European Parliament, on 17 December 2008, approved the ''20-20-20 plan'' committing by the year 2020 to: a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a 20% improvement in energy efficiency, and a 20% share for renewables in the EU energy mix.

These ambitious goals require real and radical changes to the way we produce electricity. A house or a village that can supply a percentage of its own energy needs through renewable sources, surely has its part to play. It not only brings security of supply to the home, but provides real citizen participation and buy-in into the energy mix and environmental protection. As long as it is viable, it should neither be argued against by brazen corporative self-interest, nor inadvertently impeded by bureaucratic absurdity.
